Enjoy choosing between traditional Spain and the coast, by staying in this delightful cortijo. "Cortijo El Mirador" is a farmhouse of recent construction, but following the traditional Andalusian style and perfectly integrated into the landscape. This is an ideal holiday home for those who enjoy being in the country and dining outside. The house is furnished and decorated in a rustic style.

"Cortijo El Mirador" is situated in the country, in the surroundings of the tranquil and very beautiful village of El Borge, approximately 60 minutes drive away from International Airport Pablo Ruiz Picasso.

"Cortijo El Mirador" is the ideal place for those who want to relax away from it all and for those who enjoy walking. Alternatively, the coastal resort of Torrre del Mar, only 25 minutes' drive, has many very good fish restaurants, sandy beaches and nightlife.

El Borge is situated at 237 metres above sea level at the foot of Cerro Cútar (595 m.). Its territory borders with the Montes de Malaga and the Axarquía regions, in a common landscape of ravinous hills and sometimes smooth and covered in vines and olives. The abundance of vines, sometimes give way to frequent "paseros" (places where raisins are laid out to dry), which are a very characteristic element of the Axarquía. Little is known of El Borge’s history, although it seems that the actual town’s origins are with the Arabs judging by names etymology - Al-Borg. What is known, through the chronicles from that time and after the Christian conquest, it was a town that strongly resisted the conquerors impositions.
Therefore, when the Moorish uprising occured, it was distinguished as a focus of rebellion, even reaching the point that some of the inhabitants supported the neighbouring town’s rebellions and helping in the escape to the Granada Alpujarras. This situation lasted until the mayor of Vélez, Alvaro de Zuazo, took El Borge. The Moorish expulsion caused the abandonment of the town and its subsequent repopulation by people from the interior.

This is a peaceful, uncrowded land, perfect for a relaxing holiday, but that doesn't mean you are cut off from the other attractions of southern Spain. The beach is never far away, the city of Málaga is only a short drive from El Borge, and beyond lie the temptations of the Costa del Sol. And a couple of hours by car takes you to the legendary cities of Andalusia: Granada, Córdoba, Seville.

Outside: There is a marvellous large terracota tiled terrace which incorporates the magnificent swimming-pool, a built-in barbecue, and the eating out area. The panoramic views of the mountains and the valley descending to the Mediterranean are breathtaking.

Further details: Water at the house is of a very high quality and is fine for drinking. The house is solar-powered, so please note that the power is 12 volt and not suitable for electrical appliances (the cooker and fridge run on bottled gas). A car is essential.
